Marking Period 1
We did a literature essay based off the book "The Misfits" by James Howe. We had four prompts to choose from:
1. One theme in "The Misfits" is that it is important to stand up for what you believe in, regardless of the consequences. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why or why not?
2. On page 124, Bobby thinks that "this business of really knowing people, deep down, including your own self, it is not something you can learn in school or from a book. It takes your whole being to do it - your eyes and your ears, your brain and your heart. Maybe your heart most of all." What does he mean by this?
3. Characters in "The Misfits" have often endured a loss. These losses have shaped their personalities and have affected each of them differently. Discuss how this is so.
4. Examine and discuss the following pairings: Bobby and Mr. Kellerman, Addie and Ms. Wyman, Joe and Colin. How does each relationship demonstrate how people who seem very different are actually very much alike?
I chose to do number 4. Below is my essay.

We also did a persuasive essay about the environment and learned about using hooks and examples in our writing to make our points more convincing. Below is my essay.

Marking Period 2
For this marking period we were starting our short story unit. We learned about dialogue, points of view, characterization and theme. I uploaded my story (below) and I'm sorry if it bores you. It's rather long, so you don't need to read it! (And honestly, I'm worried about putting this up here. My stories are mostly private things.)

Marking Period 3
For this marking period, it's test prep, test prep, and more test prep! Really fun, right? There's a test coming up in April though, so this shouldn't be a surprise. I'm honestly really worried about the test.
Marking Period 4
For this marking period, we have finally finished our test prep phase and are doing our memoir unit. We need to read and analyze tons of memoirs, then we need to write one of our own. We aren't done with it yet, so I'll upload it when I can.
