Marking Period 1
Core Math: For the first marking period we learned about linear equations, parallel and perpendicular lines, and slope and y-intercept. We learned formulas for finding the slope of a line and we also had practice on learning how to identify whether two lines were parallel or perpendicular.
Math Exploration: We learned about the sum of consecutive numbers and we learned about line design. At the end of the marking period, we created a line design project in which we only used linear equations to make a cool design (we learned that if used in the right way, linear equations and be put together to look like it formed a curve) and we had to find the equations of each line used.

Marking Period 2
Core Math: For the second marking period we learned about exponential functions, scientific notation, and transformations (and we took a lot of quizzes). We also had to do a "project" (which was just a packet to finish) and we created a slideshow project about transformations (we had to create a design). We also learned a little about quadratic functions.
Math Exploration: We went further in depth about patterns. We also learned about different types of patterns that could be formed using exponential functions (the Sierpinski Triangle and others) and we made a project/poster that showed what we learned about the designs.

Marking Period 3
Core Math: We went further into quadratic functions and we also learned about circles, cylinders, and pi. We also learned about radicals and square roots. We learned about how to find the zeros of a quadratic function using the factoring method and we learned about simplifying radicals and how the different formulas for cylinders, cones, and spheres related to each other. We also learned about the Pythagorean Theorem.
Math Exploration: We learned about geometric and arithmetic sequences and we did a lot of coding (we had to create our own game using code). Each of us had to create a game with a partner that met the requirements set for us. We also learned more about patterns and we had activities where we created short animations using the new codes we learned, but since the Regents were coming up we jumped into statistics, tables, and analysis of data halfway through this marking period.

Marking Period 4
Core Math: We began to do practice for the Regents and we did a review on what we learned earlier. We also learned more about arithmetic and geometric sequences and we learned about inverse variation, absolute value graphs, and different ways to write the difference of two squares and the difference of two cubes.
Math Exploration: We learned about piece-wise functions and we did a lot of graphing. Throughout the year we constantly used the graphing calculator in both core math class and in math exploration and we learned how to type in each function and graph them in the graphing calculator. We also learned how to used the trace function, zero function, see the table, find the max or min, and use the intercept function on the graphing calculator.
