Marking Period 1
Core Math: We did rational numbers and negatives in math. For example, we learned about operations with negatives, operations with both negatives and positives, and we relearned what rational number and irrational numbers are. We also started to do scale factors, but we didn't go really deep into it. We were using it to help us with figuring out whether two figures were similar or not. We were learning about similar figures and how their areas, perimeters, and side lengths relate.
Math Exploration: We learned about probability for the first marking period. For example, we learned about sample space, complex events, and using diagrams and tables to help us figure out the theoretical probability for a problem with multiple results. We also did several group projects involving poster making. There was one about the Halloween maze, where you had to create a "maze" and find the probabilities of getting to a certain location (like candy, or ending up in a 'trick' room or a 'treat' room).

Marking Period 2
Core Math: We went further into our study of scale factors and learned about what happened if the scale factor isn't an integer. We also learned how to find the height of an object using the shadow method and how to use two objects to find the length of one of their shadows if we know the other object's shadow.
Math Exploration: We learned about linear equations in this marking period. We learned about how to write them and how to write equations that would produce a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line. After that we worked with a partner to create a hidden object puzzle, which I'll upload here after I figure some things out.

Marking Period 3
Core Math: We're doing a ton of test prep because of the test in April. Sounds fun, right? Oh well. We have to do what we have to in order to score well on the test, but I wish we didn't need to go through that. In my opinion, it's kind of annoying and kind of boring.
Math Exploration: We're also doing test prep involving expressions and algebraic functions. At first, I didn't get it, but eventually it became easier. I'm glad we prepped on that, although there weren't many questions about simplifying expressions on the actual test.

Marking Period 4
Core Math: We began learning about volume and surface area of 3-D shapes in this marking period. We also did a pool table project here to test our knowledge of rules and patterns and to evaluate our understanding of them. I think I did pretty badly, but below I have the link to it anyway.

Math Exploration: We're doing programming on a website called WeScheme. We learned about domain and range of different functions and we started programming our own game. My partner and I are working on a game about a rabbit. It's really boring and unoriginal, but we couldn't come up with anything better. It's about a rabbit who's trying to collect carrots for the winter, but it's in danger of being eaten by a coyote. We haven't finished the game yet, so I'm not sharing it. Don't know if I ever will.
